PixelHere's the day trader setup from our reel, with the install steps (Not financial advice: start on paper!)

The day trader skills

Eleven free skills that turn Claude into a trading research team. Install steps below.

Keyword: TRADEFreeFrom our reel

The setup from our reel "Claude can now be a trading research team". Eleven free, open-source Claude skills that scan charts, watch the news, plan entries and exits, and simulate a trade before you put money in.

Free and open source (MIT licence). No signup, no API key. They read free public data (Yahoo Finance, Nasdaq Trader, SEC EDGAR and the House Clerk). Nothing places an order without your OK, and paper trading (pretend money) is the default.

Not financial advice. These skills help you research. The Time Machine is a simulation, not a prediction. Never trade money you can't afford to lose.

What you need

  • Claude Code (the terminal, or the Code tab in the Claude desktop app).
  • Python 3.8 or newer on your computer. There is nothing to pip install.

Install (easiest way)

Open Claude Code, paste this and send it:

Copy and paste
https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill

Install these skills, then list the trader commands you added.

Read what Claude asks to do before you say yes.

Or install it as a plugin (type these in Claude Code):

Copy and paste
/plugin marketplace add Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill
/plugin install day-trader-skill@day-trader-skill

As a plugin, the commands get a prefix, for example /day-trader-skill:trader-scanner.

Or copy the folders yourself (in a terminal), for short command names like /trader-scanner:

Copy and paste
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill.git
cp -r day-trader-skill/trader-* ~/.claude/skills/

One setting before you start

The SEC tools need you to say who you are (a name and an email). Put them in trader/config.json as "sec_user_agent", or set the SEC_USER_AGENT environment variable. Or just ask Claude to set it up for you.

The 11 skills

  • /trader-scanner: finds chart setups, like opening-range breakouts.
  • /trader-news: tracks headlines and what is moving a stock.
  • /trader-entry: signals when to get in.
  • /trader-exit: sets your stop and target before you enter.
  • /trader-timemachine: simulates how the trade could play out.
  • /trader-risk: checks each trade against your limits.
  • /trader-budget: sizes the position to your budget and max loss.
  • /trader-broker: sends approved orders (paper trading by default).
  • /trader-alerts: price, stop and market-open alerts.
  • /trader-analyst: sums up earnings reports.
  • /trader-pelosi: reads US Congress members' stock-trade disclosures.

How to use it

Run them in this order: scanner, news, entry, exit, timemachine, budget, risk, broker. Keep alerts running while a trade is open. Each skill saves its work in a trader/ folder, and the next one reads it.

Good to know

  • Real orders need a broker connection (the README uses Alpaca's MCP server, with its keys in environment variables). Skip it and everything stays on paper.
  • Start on paper for a few weeks before you even think about real money.
